I'm predicting an upset by the Saints, 37-33, but like Dire what I'm really hoping for most is just a competitive game, or at least one that hasn't been totally drained of drama before halftime.

do you call in to work the next day or just go really tired? up here in the north the game starts around 2pm so plenty of time for a few more after or sober up before bed depending on how the night goes. Not that I'm advocating that sort of thing : )

Maker's Mark seems to be all that is in the cupboard

The New Orleans Saints drinking Game-Who Dat!

The New Orleans Saints Superbowl Drinking Game-WHO DAT!!! 1. Every time they mention hurricane Katrina, drink 1
2. If they show pictures of the City of New Orleans right after Katrina, drink 1
3. Every time they say how much the Saints mean to the City of New Orleans, drink 1
4. Every time the words "tragedy", "flood", or "devastation" are used, drink 1
5. Every time they talk about how good Reggie Bush was in college, drink 3
6. If they show Kim Kardashian in the stands, drink 5
7. Every time they show a picture of Reggie Bush with a bat or say "bringing the wood" drink for 5 seconds.
8. Every time Reggie Bush gets negative yardage trying to run around in the backfield a bunch and outrun the defense, drink 1 and turn to the person next to you and say "I told you Vince Young should have won the Heisman"
9. Every time Reggie Bush gets up and flexes his arms in that pose he likes to do, drink 1
10. If they mention Tim Tebow for any reason, funnel a beer 11. Every time they say that "it's destiny for the Saints to win" drink 1
12. If they show footage of Katrina survivors at the Superdome, take a shot of cheap liquor
13. If they call Saints fans the most passionate fans in football, drink 1
14. If they say that the Saints, Saints fans, or the City of New Orleans "deserve" a Superbowl victory, drink 1
15. Every time they say how good of a story the Saints are, drink 1
16. If Jeremy Shockey pretends to be hurt after dropping a pass, drink 2
17. If they mention the Saints beating the Falcons in 2006 in the first game after Katrina in the Superdome, drink 5 and remember that we are still a better football team with better fans.
18. Every time they compare hurricane Katrina to the Haiti earthquake, funnel a beer and yell "bullshit!"
19. Every time they mention Drew Brees as the Mardi Gras king, drink 1
20. Every time they show Archie Manning, drink 1, and mention how bad he sucked. If they show old footage of him on the Saints, drink 5. If they mention how tough of a decision it was for him as for whom to cheer for, drink 10. 21. Every time they show a saints fan yelling "Who dat!" Or a sign/shirt saying the same, drink 1.
22. If they show Chris Paul at the game, drink 1 and mention to someone how much better he is than Marvin Williams. (GO TO HELL CAROLINA, GO TO HELL!)
23. If they show former Mayor Ray Nagin, drink 5 and then punch someone in the face
Other Rules not involving the Saints:
1. Every time they show Eli Manning in the press box, drink 1
2. Every time Pierre Garcon is mentioned with Haiti, drink 1
3. If Brett Favre is mentioned for any reason, drink 1

OTHER OTHER RULES: 1. Every time Drew Brees or Peyton Manning say how great the other one is, drink a shot and say "Brees Sucks".
2. Every time a player or coach says we are going to take this one play at a time, drink 1
3. If you can understand anything Shannon Sharpe says in the pregame or halftime, stop drinking.

Intriguing that the highlight and low point of the game will be the who at halftime (sponsored by geritol and metamucil - apologies to all you AARP card carrying forumites).

Garcia plays steel guitar on the first three songs

from LiA's "Incomplete Shows" thread...
"2/7/70
The end of the show is missing, though we don't know how much. There's an AUD tape of the first hour of the show (which isn't on the Archive at the moment), and a 70-minute SBD which is rather chopped up with many cuts (and Hard to Handle completely absent).
Deadlists notes: "Compared with Friday's total of 115 minutes and Sunday's of 138, the 85 minutes of Saturday 2/7/70 preserved on tape seems obviously to fall short by at least a half hour. Obviously we are missing several tunes from the end of this set." One thing that's glaringly missing is any long jam - and they probably didn't play Lovelight this night, so like 1/24 it's a mystery how the show might have ended.
What's left of the show is well-played but mostly unremarkable. Fans of slow Dead will like the twenty-minute Uncle John>Black Peter - Garcia takes a very long, extended solo in Uncle John! The tape ends with a hot Good Lovin' jam which is cut cruelly short.
This is the last show Garcia & Weir opened with pedal-steel country songs (Green Grass, Sawmill, and Seasons) - in a couple months that slot would be replaced by the New Riders set. The Compendium reviewer notes that the pedal steel was onstage "forlorn and unused" during all four Fillmore West shows, though only played in two.
The China>Rider>High Time was released on the "Fillmore West '69" bonus disc. Banter completists take note: after High Time there's a long break in which Weir has some humorous complaints about the monitors and they play some instrumental ditties....which is only on the AUD tape."

BTW...heart says N'awlins but the brain can't agree

My prediction is that with game time at 6, at around 5-5:30 will be an excellent time to go to the gym and then run some errands because the gym and all the stores will be deserted by then, as everywhere will be except for living rooms with wide-screen TVs, and also the roads, which at the moment are still full of idiots who can't drive in the snow.

Sound System note on Bear's tape —— this is the best sounding indoor AUD I ever heard from this era. The hiss component can be reduced by professional dehisser s/w. Kevin Tobin is upgrading this source, it says.

I was disappointed with the sound system quality at the Nassau Coliseum shows in 1973. The PA was boomy sounding inside. The Spectrum shows in Philly weren't much better. Common sense tells you that the band can only play better when the sound system is better - especially with the audience reacting well to the incredible sound. The GD sound system experience was always very important to me. When you're taping, and listening to lots of tapes, the sound system presents itself very forcefully to you.

So I'd like to pick your brain and ask your opinion of the 1974 sound. I have become sort of obsessed with 1974 - and part of my experience is your above sentence. I remember Garcia and Lesh using the capabilities of the wall to totally fuck with our minds. The good auds from the summer tour bring that back to me. Was it really as good as I remember?

Incredibly - or not, I never saw Pigpen perform. I just missed him by my first show. I never saw Mickey perform either. He wasn't around in 1973. And, I never saw the boys at a smaller venue - say, 5000 or less in size. What actually happened was that I hit the 15-show run in the northeast in 1973. If you count 2 days for the soundcheck show + the summer jam show, that's just under 1.5 million total in attendance at the 6 outdoor shows during a 7-week period as the proto-type WOS developed: RFK Stadium, Watkins Glen, and Roosevelt Stadium.

Iowa State Fairgrounds - June 16, 1974 WOS - a pic is worth a 1000 words
